About Coolangatta, Gold Coast
Located at the southern end of Gold Coast bordering Queensland and New South Wales, Coolangatta sits right on the coast and boasts some of the best beaches in the region, with the white sandy shores and turquoise waters of Kirra Beach and Greenmount. Also close to shore you’ll find lush green parklands perfect for picnics and barbecues with kids playgrounds to keep the little ones entertained.
Coolangatta is also home to a range of beachfront shops and restaurants, with the Showcase Shopping Centre located on Marine Parade, the main restaurant and shopping strip of Coolangatta. Here you will find many fashion and variety stores where you can pick up a trinket to remember your holiday, or the second Sunday of every month the beachfront come alive with the Coolangatta Markets.
Here over 150 stalls are displayed between 8:30am and 2:30pm, showcasing an array of Australian made products from jewellery and indigenous art to the weird and wonderful.
The many restaurants in the Showcase Shopping Centre as well as on the Marine Parade strip offer something for everyone with Thai, Mexican, burgers and fine dining restaurants. There are also a number of pubs and clubs in the area, with Coolangatta fast becoming synonymous with great nightlife. Each weekend many Gold Coasters head to the area for an ice cold beer and live music.
Street festivals also offer the seaside town great entertainment with the Wintersun Festival, a rock n roll extravaganza with everything retro from hotrods and custom cars to over 100 bands and street dancing.
